Is Tesla’s GM Deal Good for EVs – and Bad for Charger Firms?
Is Tesla’s GM (and other OEM) deal good for electric vehicles?
Yes. Allowing GM, Ford and others to use Tesla’s Supercharger network helps EV adoption by giving more drivers access to reliable long-distance charging.
Is this “very bad” for other charging networks?
It increases competition, but it does not eliminate other networks. ChargePoint, EVgo and Electrify America are adding NACS cables, allowing them to serve both CCS and NACS vehicles.
- Tesla’s network as the reliability benchmark.
- Retail and workplace chargers for convenience.
- Utility and city-operated stations in public areas.
